Can someone tell me if it acceptable to use one starter to feed two refrigeration fan units with five 3/4 H.P. motors in each unit? Total of ten motors off one starter?

If you look at 28-500(3)(d), it says you can use a single contactor if the fan coil units are required to operate together. But according to 28-300 and 28-308, each motor would require its own overload protection. I did a job similar to this, we had a single contactor controlling several motors on a fan coil unit, with one 3-wire circuit going to each fan coil unit, and the overloads for each motor were installed next to the motor.
